Senior Hiking Group
Fairfield County Park District and Lancaster Parks & Recreation invite you to join Wise Walkers!
Looking for ways to stay active? Love hiking but don’t want to go alone? Are you 55 or older? On the second Wednesday of each month, meet just before 9:00 a.m. at the locations listed below. Invite a friend or make new friends while you get outside to enjoy the fresh air and exercise.
No registration is required. If you see a date and location that works for you, meet just before 9 a.m. on that day. Of course, we hope you can make it to each and every hike to have fun with us!

Stebelton Park at Rock Mill

Standing 90’ above the gorge of Hocking River Falls is Rock Mill, a restored 1800s gristmill. In 1905, it closed for business and fell into disrepair. After a decade-long restoration effort ending in 2017, it roared to life and milled grain again for the first time in over 100 years! Come see this amazing piece of history, enjoy the view from Rock Mill Covered Bridge, and enjoy the beautiful setting!
Milling Demonstrations
On the last Sunday of each month, May through October, corn will be ground the way it was done 200 years ago! You may even be able to help use the bolter to sift the meal and bag it.

Mindfulness practices will be used to help students develop greater awareness of their thoughts, emotions, and physical sensations. Our aim is to provide a supportive and fun space to cultivate calm, build strength, and connect to nature in an outdoor setting. Gentle yoga poses, breathing exercises, and playful games will be used to promote connection, relaxation, and self-awareness.
These one-hour-long, beginner-friendly classes are designed for all ages, from toddlers to grandparents. Students are encouraged to modify movements or rest at any time. You will not be pushed beyond your limits or abilities.
No Pets
Please do not bring pets to these sessions.
The Instructor
Instructor Jeannie Spencer uses trauma-informed yoga as her modality of choice. She has taught over 1,000 hours of yoga in studios, schools, recovery centers, foster homes, and other organizations.
Liability Release
Participants must sign a liability release before taking part in yoga classes.

Bring your own drinking water; potable water is not available at these locations. If possible, bring a yoga mat and either a blanket or shower curtain to lie on the ground. Insect repellent is suggested.

True, Sam can be a bit of a bully. We hope you will overlook that and join Sam, his wife Sarah, and two of their ten children as they discuss what like was like when the Canal was in full swing. What questions will you have for them?
The year 2025 marks the bicentennial of the groundbreaking for the Canal. To celebrate, staff members will be in character during this program. Join us for a fun immersive experience. Learn about life in Lockville in the mid- to late-1800s and later.

Free your inner artist! Anyone who wants to paint or sketch in plein air, come! Artists who would like help or suggestions may ask the experienced advisor* who will be on hand at each session.
*Lisa Schorr, Director of Arts Education for Decorative Arts Center of Ohio, will be the advisor.
What is Plein Air?
The French adjective “plein air” means “open air” or “outdoor”. Plein air painting is ‘the act of painting outdoors in contrast with painting inside in a studio. It allows an artist to see the true colors of nature and capture the mood and feeling of a place.’
What to Bring
As is customary in a plein air setting, bring your own chair or stool, easel or drawing board, and art supplies. An artist may use his choice of medium – oil, acrylic or watercolor paint, charcoal, pencil, etc., plus canvas or sketch pad. | Depending on weather conditions, sunscreen and/or insect repellent may be advised. You may also want to bring your own drinking water.

Wander public areas of the parks/preserve and select a location that inspires you! Need suggestions? We will be glad to help find a spot that ‘speaks’ to you!

Participants must sign a liability release before taking part in yoga classes.
What to Bring
Bring your own drinking water; potable water is not available at these locations. If possible, bring a yoga mat and either a blanket or shower curtain to lie on the ground. Insect repellent is suggested.

Pets
Pets may not enter buildings but are welcome outside and on the trails at Smeck Park. They must be under control at all times and on a leash no longer than 6’. For the health and safety of all, pick up and properly dispose of pets’ waste. | There may be some programs or events at which we ask that you do not bring pets. That is usually determined by the nature of the activity, presentation, or hike, and safety issues.
