11:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m.

Ohio National Guard
& World War I

Smeck Park
7395 Basil Rd

Baltimore, OH 43105

In April of 1917, the United States entered the First World War.  Immediately, Ohio began preparing the Ohio National Guard for service overseas. Eventually, they would fight the Germans across France and Belgium, but first they trained relentlessly, and in October of 1917 they shipped off to become part of the American Expeditionary Forces.
Living historians will be portraying a company of the local Ohio National Guard regiment in the fall of 1917. They will demonstrate what life was like for Guardsmen as they practiced and learned the skills necessary for industrialized trench warfare.

This is not a presentation that begins and ends at a certain time. Rather, the living historians will be onsite from 11:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m.

Presented in partnership with Baltimore Community Museum.

Light refreshments will be served in the open picnic shelter near the Paw Paw Trail trailhead.
