There is fungi all around us. Without it, trees couldn’t grow and soil couldn’t form. Take a peek beneath the cap to discover fungi’s role and what we can find in local woods. This hike will be partially off-trail.

Is there a tree in your backyard you have been trying to identify. Have you ever gone for a walk and wondered what trees you’re seeing? Learn what to look for when identifying trees to recognize common species. This hike will be partially off-trail.

Even in the depths of winter, animals are awake and active. Search with us for one of the first signs of spring – owls calling and looking for mates.
Suggested Audience
Ages 8 to Adult. No pets (see more about pets, below)

Our Host, Coyote Run
This program is being held in Coyote Run, a private nature preserve. We should not disturb the wildlife inhabitants and native plant life. There is a no alcohol, no smoking, no pets policy. Let’s thank our host by observing these simple requests.
What to Bring
Potable water is not available at this location; bring your own drinking water. Depending on weather conditions and the time of year, you may want to bring sunscreen and/or insect repellent.
No Pets
Pets are never allowed in nature preserves. Please do not bring pets to this event.
Trails & Off-Trail
Keep in mind that trail conditions vary based on weather; be prepared with appropriate footwear to hike in muddy or slippery conditions. Dress for the day’s weather conditions. Some of the hikes may be off-trail.
