Too often, the contribution women made to the success of the Ohio & Erie Canal is not even mentioned in history books. They were unsung, unpaid heroes, often working harder than the men!
What to Expect
Interpretive Historian, Jack Campbell, will share stories about the wife of Francis Cunningham, Mary Benadum, Sarah Benadum, Sarah Rowe, Mary “Mother” Nye (pictured), and other intrepid women.
Where to Meet
Meet in the picnic shelter by 1:30 p.m. Those who wish can take a walking tour of Locks 11, 12, and 13 in the park.
What to Bring
We suggest you bring drinking; there is no potable water at this location.
