School & Community Programs

Nature and history programs are available for groups on request.

Community Programs are up to 45 minutes long for a maximum of 30 students at once. Most In-park Programs are 90 minutes in length. Below is a list of past programs to give you some ideas, but we may also be able to accommodate a request about something not listed below. History

Rock Mill and Lockville Tours

People have come from all over the U.S. to see Rock Mill, Rock Mill Covered Bridge, and the Lockville canal locks! We’ll take you on a tour of the site while we learn about the area’s history.

Food on the Frontier

The early Ohio settlers ate very differently than we do. During this 45-minute program we’ll learn about their food and you’ll even get a chance to try a frontier style johnnycake.

Animal Adaptations

Learn about cool animal adaptations during up-close and personal meetings with some of the animals who call Ohio home.

Skins & Skulls

Have you felt real bear fur? a fox pelt? See and touch some of Ohio’s mammals’ skins and skulls.

Creek Study

Get wet in one of our creeks while searching for the creatures who live there.

Night Hike

Explore the outdoors at night with one of our naturalists. What nocturnal animal residents will we see and hear? There aren’t many occasions to visit the parks at night, don’t miss this one!

Birding Hike

A walk with one of the naturalists to seek out some of Ohio’s resident birds. This hike can be tailored to beginners or experienced birders.

Woodland Wildflowers

A hike with one of the naturalists to search for woodland wildflowers.

Tree ID Basics

A short presentation and walk to get tools needed to start identifying the trees around you.

Monarch Life Cycle (Video Lesson)

From egg to caterpillar to chrysalis to butterfly, the Monarch butterfly’s life cycle is fascinating. Find out the only food this caterpillar will eat and how that food can save its life.
