“I like talking with people and making history come alive in some small way for them. That is mainly why I volunteer.” –Joe

“Volunteering with [Fairfield County Park District] has been an incredibly rewarding experience for me. I’ve loved learning new and fascinating things about nature through the various programs and activities. It’s also been a wonderful opportunity to involve my family—both of my kids have joined me for several programs, and we’ve made lasting memories together. I’m grateful for the chance to give back and encourage others to engage with the great outdoors.” –Michelle

“I like volunteering because I like nature, the opportunity to keep learning, and being able to share my knowledge with the visitors who come to our parks. I have been a volunteer for the Columbus Metro Parks for 17 years and with [Fairfield County Park District] for 3 or 4 years. The advantage of the Fairfield County parks is the variety of parks. You can learn more about history as well as nature.” –Beth

Types of Work

Our volunteers perform a wide variety of critical tasks. From sharing local history with visitors during Rock Mill Days, to removing invasive species, or helping visitors identify a bird, our volunteers play an important role in our mission to preserve and share the nature and history of Fairfield County. Below you can see some of our most common volunteer opportunities and what’s involved.

Work Schedules & Training

Work schedules are flexible depending on where and how you choose to volunteer.  No previous experience is needed.  What is needed is a desire to help others and a positive attitude!  Training will be provided at no cost.
